Why Mossie?
We want to inspire people to step outside, notice birds, and learn about them.
Through our playful bird spotting app, users will explore nature, capture photos, and record their sightings, turning everyday moments into discoveries.
If even one person who never paid attention to birds before starts to appreciate them because of our app, we’ve achieved our goal.
How does it work?
-
You notice
You’re outside. A bird darts across your path. You think: “Cute.” Maybe “Pretty cool.” But that’s where it ends. Because, let’s be honest, you don’t know what the hell you’re looking at.
-
You capture
Instead, you get to figure it out. Was it a sparrow? A wagtail? A tiny feathered mystery? You scroll, compare, match and suddenly, you know. That feeling? Way better than an algorithm.
-
You collect
The more you see, the more you spot. The more you spot, the more you know. And the more you know, the more you collect.
-
You brag
Now you’re the one saying, “That’s a sparrow. House Sparrow. Passer domesticus.”
Principles
-
Developmental education
Mossie uses a developmental approach to help you learn about birds from scratch. Instead of giving you instant answers, it guides you step by step; building your skills, confidence, and curiosity with every sighting.
-
Deliberate play
Mossie uses deliberate play by letting you explore, guess, and learn about birds through light structure, gentle feedback, and fun repetition.
-
Harmonious passion
Mossie fosters harmonious passion by helping you connect with birds on your own terms. It fits naturally into your everyday life, and makes you go outside.
-
Citizen science
Mossie turns everyday birdwatching into citizen science by inviting anyone to observe, record, and contribute to collective knowledge. Every sighting you log helps build a richer picture of bird life, making science more accessible, participatory, and community-driven.
